Xiaomi, China’s leading smartphone manufacturer, is seeking to cut 6,000 jobs, China’s Groom Network reported on the 20th.

According to the report, Xiaomi will lay off 6,000 people across all sectors, including its mobile phone division, Internet division, and departments in and out of China.

As of the end of September, Xiaomi Group had 35,314 employees, of which 32,609 were working in mainland China. Judging from this, the groom’s network said that the number of employees in mainland China will be reduced by about 20%.

The media explained that the rate of layoffs varies by business unit or department, and some employees will leave the company with better compensation than year-end bonuses.

According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP), Xiaomi’s third-quarter sales rose slightly to 70.47 billion yuan (about 13.63 trillion won) from the previous second quarter, but fell 9.7% compared to 780.63 billion yuan in the same period last year.

Xiaomi’s sales and net profit in the first and third quarters of this year were 213.997 billion yuan and 7.057 billion yuan, respectively, down 11.8% and 59.8% from the same period last year, respectively.

Xiaomi also failed to escape this year amid a sharp drop in consumption spending amid the economic downturn caused by the Chinese authorities’ strong “Zero Corona” policy implementation.
