Police turn power ranger at carnival festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, arrest suspect of theft

According to CNN on the 3rd, local police suppressed a mobile phone theft suspect in power ranger attire at a carnival festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

During the Brazilian Carnival Festival, people dressed as “superheroes” such as Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man are often seen on the streets of Sao Paulo.

In particular, this year’s festival featured people dressed up as “Power Rangers” popular characters in the 1990s. They were local police officers in Sao Paulo who were undercover to catch burglars and thieves.

Videos shared by Sao Paulo authorities showed what appeared to be power rangers, including red, blue, yellow and green, overpowering a suspected cell phone theft in front of a festive crowd.

The crowd chanted “Power Rangers! Power Rangers!” and another scene showed the black Power Rangers holding the confiscated mobile phone in their hands.

The governor of Sao Paulo, Tarcizio de Freitas, posted on X “It’s morphine’ time!” (Time to change!), the iconic slogan of the Power Rangers series. According to him, those dressed as Power Rangers were actually police officers who were deployed to prevent crime. He said that through the arrest, police recovered four more stolen mobile phones and about $2,425 in cash.

After the arrest, police officers dressed as Power Rangers were also shown standing in front of a patrol car. Governor Freitas said, “Our Power Rangers are doing a great job again at this Carnival.”

During the carnival festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s most populous state, local police sometimes disguise themselves as festival participants to prevent crimes such as robbery and theft. Last month, a photo of a police officer escorting a suspect in the form of a Mexican sitcom superhero “El Chapulin Colorado” was released.

“There were 880 mobile phone thefts and robberies reported on the weekend before the event, down significantly from 2,344 recorded in the same period last year,” Sao Paulo authorities said, explaining the effect.

Carnival is a large-scale Christian festival where you can enjoy food and fun ahead of Lent.

Meanwhile, this year’s Sao Paulo Carnival begins on February 22 and 23, with the main carnival taking place from March 1 to 4, and the subsequent carnival taking place on March 8 and 9.
