The real version of the movie Parasite actually happened… Former owner who sold his house and hid in a basement in China

Even after selling the house, the former owner, who lived in secret in an underground space for seven years, was found out by the current owner in China. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 2nd (local time), a unique sales dispute arose at a house in Jiangsu Province.

In 2018, Lee spent about 2 million yuan to buy a house in the city center. Lee’s family was satisfied with a new house with convenient transportation and nice interior, China’s NetEase News reported.

It turned out that the seller, identified only by his surname Jang, did not announce the existence of the basement at the time of the sale of the house and continued to use the space as a personal resting place afterwards.

Recently, Lee accidentally found a door behind the stairs. Beyond the door was a basement equipped with a ventilation system, lighting and even a small bar. There were signs of continued use by someone. Lee said he was appalled to see clear signs that someone was living there.

Lee contacted Jang, the former landlord, and questioned whether he intentionally hid the basement when selling the house. “I sold the house to you, but I never told you that the basement was included,” Jang said. “If the basement belongs to you, where should I rest in my spare time?”

In the case, which led to a legal dispute, the court ruled in favor of Lee, who purchased the entire house, and ordered Jang to compensate for money. Since Lee bought the house in full, he claimed that the basement was legally his own and won the case.

It is not yet known how Jang got in and out of the basement. Internet users speculated that Jang either kept the keys separately or came in and out through the door connecting the parking lot and the basement.

The case drew keen attention from Chinese Internet users in that it reminds them of Bong Joon-ho’s movie Parasite, which was released in 2019. Critics said it was a “real-life version of Parasite” with the response of “Goosebumps.”
