LG Uplus said Tuesday it would offer the world’s fastest tri-band LTE service with peak speeds of up to 400 megabits per second.
The breakthrough comes as the company applies the 256 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation or QAM software technology that bundles more bits into the spectrum being used.
The application, the first of its kind in the world, the company said, enhances data transmission speeds and network capacity by about 33 percent.
Last June, LG Uplus succeeded in developing the related equipment with Chinese telecommunications company Huawei.
According to the company, the technology will reduce the time taken to download a 1 gigabyte movie from 27 to 21 seconds. The service will be available from March when upgraded mobile devices are launched.
