Workers at South Korean technology company Kakao staged a partial strike this week as tensions over compensation and employment conditions continued amid the company’s growing investment in artificial intelligence.
Union officials said employees were seeking improved compensation and stronger job protections, arguing that workers should benefit more directly from the company’s business performance and expanding AI-related initiatives.

Kakao said it remains engaged in discussions with labor representatives and is working to resolve outstanding issues through negotiations. Union leaders, however, warned that further action could be considered if talks fail to produce meaningful progress.
The dispute comes as technology companies around the world increase spending on artificial intelligence and automation. Labor groups in several markets have raised concerns about how the benefits of technological advancement are distributed and whether new technologies could affect long-term employment stability.

Industry analysts say the issues raised in the Kakao dispute reflect broader debates taking place across the global technology sector, where companies are balancing investment in AI-driven growth with employee concerns over compensation and job security.
