Foreigners who are new to Korean food are often unfamiliar with pork, especially Korean barbecue and pork belly, and they are often curious and surprised because they cannot choose a part. Along with pork barbecue culture (grilling, cutting scissors, ssam culture, etc.), pork and rice soup dishes were also found to be “delicious.” With the spread of the Korean Wave and the expanding influence of K-FOOD, the globalization of Korean food is gaining huge popularity in overseas markets. A few years ago, half of the foreigners who visited Incheon were Chinese, and Songdo International City was the most visited by foreigners. Based on mobile carrier roaming data, Incheon City and SK Telecom analyzed the big data of 1211,090 foreigners who visited Incheon from January to August last year to mark Korea’s Year of Visit to China in 2015.
However, in fact, Songdo International City has more Europeans and Australians visiting and living in Singapore, Malaysia, the Middle East, and North America (US, South America) than the Chinese population.
Songdo has residential and commercial districts around a lake inspired by Soje Central Park in Manhattan, New York. Songdo attracts international schools, foreigners, and businessmen from about 130 countries.
In their food culture, except in some Middle Eastern religious countries, there are traditional foods centered around representative Korean barbecues, side dishes, and soups.
