The Academy Awards, which have represented the American film industry, will be held in a new place, leaving the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood

Announcing its new global partnership with entertainment company AEG, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) said the Oscars will be held at the Peacock Theatre from 2029.

The Peacock Theatre is located near the CryptoCom Arena in downtown Los Angeles and has been the venue for the Emmy Awards since 2008. It has a capacity of 7,000 people, which is twice as much as the Dolby Theatre.

According to the LA Times, Dolby Theater opened in 2001 under the name of Kodak Theater, and the Oscars have been held every year since 2002. Although it is considered an iconic place, it has been pointed out that it is narrow in space and blocks Hollywood Boulevard, the main road in LA, causing traffic jams.

Foreign media predicted that hotels, restaurants, and clubs will be gathered in the “L.A. Live Space” around the Pikok Theater, making it easier to hold additional events in addition to the awards ceremony.

“From the 101st Oscars, the academy will work closely with AEG to make L.A. Live the perfect venue for the global film festival,” said Bill Cramer, CEO of the academy.

Starting in 2029, broadcast partners as well as venues for the Oscars will change.

AMPAS has announced that it will broadcast live worldwide on YouTube from 2029 instead of ABC, which has signed a broadcasting rights contract for the past 50 years.
