British Airways appoints new general manager for Seoul

British Airways has appointed Manuel Alvarez as the new general manager for Korea, the company said Tuesday.

Alvarez served as country manager of Iberia Airlines, the Spanish air carrier under British Airways owner International Airlines Group, for Lebanon and Algeria. He had worked in the sales department of British Airways and IAG since 2011.

“British Airways will strengthen its foothold to be a hub that connects passengers to European destinations while actively cooperating with business partners and other airlines to offer better service to Korean customers,” Alvarez said.

According to Jonty Brunner, the carrier’s regional commercial manager for Japan and Korea, the Korean office of British Airways has been showing continuous growth since it launched nonstop flights from London to Seoul in 2012.

“The general manager for Korea has a significant role to enhance our presence based on such growth we achieved. I believe that Manuel Alvarez will become a major driving force to lead the Korean market,” he said.
