Changes in fashion always start with very minor gestures. This season, the changes captured on the runway and on the street at the same time are obvious. I don’t carry my bag on my shoulder. I don’t even hang it on my hand. Instead, I walk with it on my “side.”
There was only one change in the way the bag was raised, but the atmosphere, such as silhouette and attitude, changed. One of the most interesting points in the 2026 S/S season collection is the change in the way the bag is raised. Major houses such as Miu Miu, Rohebe, and Fendi did not wear tote bags and shoulder bags on their shoulders or hold them in their hands as before. Models appeared with the bag close to the side of the body and between the waist and arms. This seems to be an attitude of treating the bag like a body part rather than a directing pose.
This style looks like an extension of a traditional clutch, but the difference is clear. If the clutch was a “formal choice,” side styling is much more routine and functional. The bag is tightly worn, allowing you to move freely, and at the same time, the shape and material of the bag are revealed on the front of the look.
Fashion experts say this trend is the result of ‘strap fatigue’. After the era of “carrying bags” that have continued for years, including cross bags, shoulder bags, and mini bags, the method of keeping the bag close to the body but not wearing it has emerged as a new alternative. Another reason is the return of silhouette-centered styling. As there are more straight silhouettes such as oversized jackets, straight pants, and low-rise skirts, the bag worn on the side naturally segments the waistline and creates a visual rhythm. The bag creates the center axis of the look.
This trend has long since taken to the streets. Influencers caught during Paris and Milan Fashion Week held tote bags, medium-sized shoulder bags, and even soft hobo bags, without loosening or using the straps at all. Influencers’ side styling, how can you apply it naturally? For bag sizes, “medium” is the safest. Bags that are too big float on the body, and bags that are too small look like clutches. Ideally, a medium tote or structural shoulder bag that barely fits A4 is the ideal.

If you have a strap, adjust it as short as possible, or use it as a decoration by hanging it naturally. The key to a side style is not to wear a mask. Also, if you wear the bag too hard, it will create tension, and if it is too loose, it will flow down. The angle at which the elbow is slightly bent and supported naturally looks the most sophisticated.
As the bag is revealed on the front, the top is better to have a simple design such as solid knitwear, shirts, and jackets. This is because the more prints there are, the more blurred the presence of the bag.
Most of all, the reason why this trend is so good is that you don’t need to buy a new bag just because it’s a new season. You can feel different by wearing a tote bag or shoulder bag that you already have. It is also perfect as an attitude for refreshment.
