Google will cooperate with commercial companies such as Walmart to introduce a function that allows them to purchase and pay products directly on its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot platform.
“We announce new open standards for agentic (secretary) commerce and AI tools that help retailers connect with customers who are willing to buy to boost sales,” Google said in a post on its blog.

Google explained that it will provide product purchase and payment functions in Google’s search AI mode and chatbot Gemini app by applying the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) developed with industry leaders such as Walmart, Target, Shopify, Wayfair, and Etsy.
Users will be able to search for products with the help of AI chatbots on Google or Gemini platforms and immediately connect to the retailer’s system to complete payment.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the cooperation between the two companies on stage with Walmart’s top executives at an event of the National Retail Federation in New York.
As Google announced its collaboration with retailers, competition in the AI e-commerce market is expected to begin in earnest. Google CEO Pichai said, “AI takes over the difficult task of accurately selecting the products that users want to purchase the most,” and emphasized, “It can help throughout the entire process of creating a perfect customer experience, from product discovery, purchase decision, and delivery.”
Walmart said, “In the next few months, customers will be able to purchase products from Gemini browsers or mobile apps,” adding, “It will include clothing, consumer goods, entertainment products, and food currently sold at Walmart and Sam’s Club.”
Walmart previously announced plans to collaborate with OpenAI in October last year.
It is a method that allows users to purchase Walmart products they want through the “Instant Checkout” function after searching for products on OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
