Facebook parent Meta Platforms launches its first smart glasses with a display

Meta’s next-generation smart glasses, known as “Hypernova,” will be unveiled at Meta’s annual product presentation event “Connect” next month, according to Bloomberg News on the 18th.

The smart glasses are capable of applying augmented reality (AR) technology through an artificial intelligence (AI) voice assistant as well as an onboard display. Various information can be viewed through the right lens display and controlled through the wristband. Unlike the Ray Ban smart glasses on sale now, the next-generation smart glasses are equipped with a built-in display.

The price of new smart glasses starts at $800, the agency said. This is much lower than previously expected to exceed at least $1,000 in price. It is half the price of its competitor, Apple’s Vision Pro.

“This price change was deliberately taken by Meta to increase demand,” Bloomberg said. “This is a common strategy for launching new products.” However, some point out that even if the meta product is released at $800, the actual purchase cost will increase further if other options are added.
