“Losing 3kg in a month due to chocolate diet” is a hot topic in Japan

As the case of successful weight loss by regularly consuming a small amount of chocolate, known as high-calorie food, is known, attention is being paid to the correlation between chocolate consumption and diet.

According to the recent Japanese media Dongyang Economy, Takeshi Kurihara, director of the Kurihara Clinic, introduced the positive effects of dark chocolate on weight loss and liver health in his book “Resurrection of the Liver.”

Citing the case of a female patient in her 40s who was diagnosed with obesity and fatty liver in the past, Director Gurihara said that the woman shared 25g of cacao content of 70% dark chocolate every day at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and snack time.

As a result, the woman succeeded in losing 3kg of weight in a month, and the ALT level indicating hepatocellular damage improved from 63 to 34, and the blood glucose indicator, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), improved from 7.4% to 6.5%.

Director Gurihara pointed to ‘cacao polyphenol’ and ‘diet fiber’ in large amounts of dark chocolate as the main factors for this effect. Polyphenols help anti-cancer and anti-aging by removing harmful free oxygen with strong antioxidant properties, he said. “Fibers contribute to reducing fat accumulation by slowing sugar absorption, suppressing blood sugar rise after meals and stabilizing insulin secretion.”

In addition, he said, “Since chocolate has been proven several times, I recommend most fatty liver patients who visit my clinic to habitually consume dark chocolate with more than 70 percent of cacao content,” and advised, “Eating 25 grams of dark chocolate 5 grams each at 2-3 hours intervals for a day is good for continuing the effect. Eating before meals helps stabilize blood sugar.”
