Predictive workbooks written by artificial intelligence (AI) are popular ahead of China’s college entrance exam

This year’s Chinese college entrance exam will run from June 7-9 and run until June 10 in some provinces and regions. The total number of applicants is expected to exceed 14 million.

The quota for four-year universities in China is about 4.5 million, and the passing rate is only around 30 percent compared to the number of applicants. Among last year’s applicants, 4.13 million students or higher took the second exam, accounting for about 30 percent.

As competition for entrance examinations is fierce, the prediction workbook of famous teachers is gaining popularity, and the “AI Expectation” workbook has also emerged.

In China, expected workbooks predicted by famous teachers are sold for 300 to 400 yuan a copy, but thousands of yuan is among AI expected workbooks.

CCTV and others said that as the test approaches, the “famous teacher prediction workbook” released by many companies is highly well received by parents and is considered a magical tool for preparing for the test.

The report said parents spend tens of thousands of won to hundreds of thousands of won to buy workbooks in hopes that their children can get more points and get into an ideal school with the idea of “trust.”

Companies that have released AI workbooks argue that they have high accuracy and will help candidates get good grades.

According to the Central News Agency, some candidates who purchased the “AI Predictive Test Paper” pointed out that it was constructed based on problems from the past and lacked personalization and diversity of problems.

However, other applicants expect the AI test paper to give confidence to the test takers and predict problems.

Chen, a member of China’s National Education Examination Guidance Commission’s expert group, said this type of expected problem is marketing tools.

“When purchasing a product, you should make a reasonable judgment and not be misled by the merchant’s excessive publicity,” Chun advised.

“The success of the test is determined by solid knowledge, not by guessing the problem,” he said.
