The 78th Cannes International Film Festival announced that it would ban actors in attendance from wearing revealing outfits

On the 12th, the 78th Cannes Film Festival revised the red carpet dress code on its official website and banned front nude and voluminous dresses.

The Cannes Film Festival will kick off with an opening ceremony at the Palais des Festivals in the southern French resort city of Cannes at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. The festival announced a revision of its dress code just one day before the festival’s opening.

According to the festival, nude clothes are prohibited not only on the red carpet but also in all other spaces of the festival in order to maintain dignity. In addition, voluminous costumes and long dress with long hemlines are not allowed that hinder the smooth movement of audiences and complicate the seating arrangement in theaters. Failure to comply with such regulations will result in a ban on access to the red carpet.

According to the Hollywood Report and other foreign media, an official at the festival explained, “It is not regulating the costumes themselves, but banning complete nudity on the red carpet in accordance with the festival’s institutional framework and French law.”

Recently, on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, famous celebrities such as models Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner wore see-through dresses that almost revealed their upper bodies, causing controversy at the same time as the topic.

In response, the Cannes Film Festival directly banned extreme dress fashion on the red carpet this year, citing the maintenance of dignity. Attention is also focusing on how strictly the actual dress code will be enforced.

Meanwhile, this year’s Cannes Film Festival will continue until July 24. However, Korean feature films have not been able to produce films that will compete in the competition for three years. Director Hong Sang-soo will be the sixth Korean film artist to be a judge in the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival.
