Professor faces probe for alleged sexual harassment

A professor at the country’s top ranked Seoul National University is being investigated on charges of sexually harassing a female intern, prosecutors said Monday.

The mathematics professor, whose identity has been withheld, is under suspicion of groping the intern, in her 20s, according to prosecutors at the Seoul Northern Prosecutors’ Office.

The victim was working as the professor’s intern for the International Congress of Mathematicians, a quadrennial conference for mathematicians from around the world, they said.

Prosecutors said that the SNU professor had admitted to the charges against him during the investigation.

“I do not have anything to say at the moment,” said the professor in a phone interview with Yonhap News Agency. “I believe the truth will soon come out.”

The investigation was launched after the prosecution office had received a tip-off, prosecutors said, adding that the victim quit the internship a day after the alleged harassment. (Yonhap)
