Top China chipmaker SMIC to invest $12 billion in Shanghai plant

SHANGHAI (BLOOMBERG) – Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) aims to spend US$8.87 billion (SUS$11.95 billion) building a new plant on the outskirts of Shanghai, a major expansion in capacity at a time China’s trying to build a world-class chip industry.
