Michelin-star dining, invitation-only events, luxury travel: How affluent clients are unlocking more than wealth management

For many affluent individuals today, wealth management is no longer just about growing, protecting and managing assets. Many now lead global lives, building businesses across borders, investing in international markets and travelling frequently for work and leisure.

As their lifestyles become more interconnected, expectations of their banking relationships are evolving as well.

In response, Standard Chartered is expanding beyond traditional financial services to offer experiences, networks and privileges that complement its clients’ ambitions and interests.

Initiatives such as A Seat, Beyond are part of this broader effort to deepen client relationships through exclusive access to wealth expertise, networks and experiences.

James Lye, head of Global and Singapore International Banking at Standard Chartered, explains: “Affluent clients today are increasingly global in how they live, work and manage their wealth. As a leading wealth manager, we want our client engagement to reflect that global mindset and go beyond the products and services we provide.

“Programmes such as A Seat, Beyond can help build stronger relationships with clients over the longer term.”

Against the backdrop of Singapore’s skyline, guests recently gathered over cocktails at the National Gallery’s Supreme Court Terrace. By the time entrepreneur and podcast host Steven Bartlett took the stage for a fireside conversation, anticipation had already built across the room.

The event, hosted by Standard Chartered and Mastercard, marked the Singapore launch of A Seat, Beyond – the bank’s new client engagement programme designed around its affluent client offering and Beyond Credit Card.

For many in attendance, the evening combined insights from one of the world’s most recognisable entrepreneurs with opportunities to network, exchange ideas and gain access to experiences not typically available to the public.

During the conversation, Bartlett reflected on the people who go on to achieve extraordinary success. “At some point in their journey, they took some kind of risk that most people would not have taken,” he said.

The remark resonated with an audience made up largely of entrepreneurs and senior professionals, many of whom are taking risks to grow businesses, expand investments and pursue opportunities across borders.

Future additions to A Seat, Beyond will continue this approach. These include an online platform that will provide access to reservations at sought-after Michelin-starred restaurants in Singapore and overseas, extending the programme beyond a single event and into a broader lifestyle ecosystem.

At the heart of the programme is the Beyond Credit Card – built around the way affluent individuals experience the world.

Says Grace Chan, managing director, Credit Cards and Personal Loans, Singapore, at Standard Chartered: “The Beyond Credit Card was launched for our affluent segment in response to how they increasingly spend, particularly overseas and on travel and dining, as well as their desire to share those benefits with family and loved ones.

“That response has helped shape A Seat, Beyond as a broader programme designed around the lifestyles and priorities of our affluent clients.”

Since the card’s launch, the response has been strong. According to Standard Chartered, Beyond cardholders spend up to five times more than the bank’s broader affluent client base, with especially strong momentum in dining, jewellery and overseas spending.

The card also reflects a broader shift in what affluent clients are looking for from their banking relationships. As their lives become increasingly international, many are seeking a partner that can support different aspects of their lives.

As affluent individuals’ banking needs expand internationally, Standard Chartered’s Priority Banking and Priority Private propositions are built to keep pace. Clients gain access to global wealth hubs supported by experts with deep knowledge of local markets, carry their priority status across 20 markets, and can open accounts remotely and make fast, fee-free international transfers to more than 50 markets.

Priority Private clients, for example, enjoy benefits such as accelerated earn rates on overseas dining, complimentary airport transfer services at more than 100 airports worldwide, and priority access to selected experiences and events. Eligible new Priority Banking and Priority Private clients can also receive more than $60,000 in welcome gifts.

Designed for those who expect more from every journey, the Beyond Credit Card seamlessly combines travel, dining and curated experiences into a refined lifestyle offering.
