According to foreign media such as USA Today and NBC, United Airlines recently revised its transportation terms and conditions to stipulate that headphones must be worn when using in-flight audio content.
The revision provides a legal basis for United Airlines to force passengers who fail to wear headphones to get off or refuse to board.
United Airlines explained, “We have recommended wearing headsets before, but we have decided that this regulation needs to be clarified due to the recent expansion of high-speed Wi-Fi in the cabin.” Not only United Airlines but also other airlines in the United States are recommending wearing earphones and headsets. Delta Air Lines offers free earphones on most flights, and Southwest Airlines has established regulations that force headsets to be worn.
The Internet users showed positive responses to United Airlines’ move. Travel influencer Ben Schlappig praised the move, saying, “I have been under a lot of stress due to passengers who lack respect for others, but this move is so fantastic.”
Other Internet users also responded, “I hope airlines around the world introduce it,” and “The space gap was narrow, so (the sound of other passenger media) was loud, but it is a very necessary measure.”
However, some said, “The regulations related to the crackdown should be more specific. The criteria for getting off are not clear.”
