After OpenAI was found to have sponsored a large amount of money to a committee supporting U.S. President Donald Trump, a boycott of “QuitGPT” to cut off ChatGPT subscriptions spread in the U.S

According to the information technology (IT) industry, a “Quiet GPT” campaign is continuing in the United States to cancel and authenticate ChatGPT subscriptions, focusing on social media such as Instagram and X.

Campaign organizers leading the boycott on the Quiet GPT website (quitgpt.org ) said 700,000 people have declared a boycott of ChatGPT by signing up for the website or sharing social media.

The boycott was sparked after it was revealed that OpenAI executives donated a large amount of money to a super pack supporting President Trump last year. It was also reported that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is also using ChatGPT technology.

Earlier, OpenAI President Greg Brockman and his wife donated $25 million last year to a MAGA organization that supports President Trump and also sponsored “Reading the Future,” an organization that calls for deregulation in the AI sector.

Regarding the reason for the ChatGPT boycott, campaign organizers said, “(President Greg Brockman and CEO Sam Altman) sponsored President Trump 26 times more than other major AI companies.”

“ICE’s resume review tool is also powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4. While ICE kills Americans and the Justice Department tries to dominate the election, OpenAI maintains close relations with President Trump,” he criticized.

Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo, who is famous for his role as Hulk in the “Avengers” series, and other celebrities are also joining the Quiet GPT campaign.

“The president of ChatGPT is Trump’s biggest backer and is providing technology to ICE,” Ruffalo said on his Instagram, adding, “It’s time to boycott.”

Scott Galloway, a professor at New York University’s business school, Dutch historian Ruther Brechmann, author of the bestselling “Human Kind,” and actor and digital producer Breckley Thornton also participated in the campaign.

There is also a possibility that the boycott will serve as an additional negative factor for ChatGPT’s market share. According to market research firm Apptopia, ChatGPT’s market share of U.S. mobile devices reached 69.1% in January last year, but decreased to 45.3% in January this year.

Campaign organizers also said, “Chat GPT is losing market share and OpenAI is spending three times more than its income,” adding, “The boycott can put OpenAI in crisis.” As an alternative to ChatGPT, they proposed services that compete with OpenAI such as Google Gemini and Anslogic Claude.
