As the first case of distributing commercial generative artificial intelligence to the Ministry of National Defense, it is accelerating military modernization using AI.
“This is the future of the U.S. war, and I write A and I,” U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a video posted to X on the 9th. “As technology advances, our adversaries are also developing, but the Department of War is not sitting on its hands.”
“With a click of a button, you can conduct in-depth research, format documents, and even analyze images or images at an unprecedented speed,” he said. “The GenAI.mil platform will directly hold the world’s most powerful state-of-the-art artificial intelligence model in the hands of all U.S. soldiers, starting with Google Gemini.”

On the same day, the Ministry of National Defense officially announced the distribution of Gemini for the government through the “GenAI.mil ” platform. He explained that it was in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order in July this year to achieve an unprecedented level of superiority in AI technology.
The Ministry of National Defense also said that the introduction of government Gemini will “bring out cultural changes that will lead the digital battlefield in the next few years,” adding, “Gemini, which embodies the excellence of U.S. AI technology, directly grants unrivalled analysis and creativity to the world’s strongest combat power.”
“There is no award given to the second place in the global competition for global AI leadership,” Emile Michael, undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, said in a statement. “AI is the ‘clear destiny’ of the United States and we will dominate this new realm.”
