Experts warn that if you don’t change your pajamas every day, you’re at high risk of contracting germs and viruses

According to the British media Daily Mail, Primrose Preston, an associate professor of clinical microbiology at the University of Leicester in the UK, said, “If possible, it is best to change your pajamas every day. If you take a shower just before you go to sleep and don’t sweat a lot, you can wear it up to three to four times.”

The reason why you have to change your pajamas often is smell and virus exposure.

According to Dr. Preston, people sweat about 0.284 liters every night on average, and when this sweat permeates their pajamas, it creates a good environment for bacteria, fungi, and viruses to reproduce. These microorganisms feed on dead skin cells, sweat, and sebum to produce substances that cause body odor.

Dr. Preston also pointed out, “If you eat in pajamas, food particles can remain in your pajamas to promote bacterial activity,” adding, “Farting while wearing pajamas can also cause a small amount of secretion, increasing the risk of infection as well as odor.”

In fact, previous studies have also confirmed that dirty pajamas and bedding have a serious impact on health. Researchers at London’s Hygiene and Tropical Abuse said human-to-human infections can spread through pajamas and bedding, making them particularly vulnerable to fecal infections such as norovirus.

Dr. Preston advised, “It is safest to wash pajamas in water at least 60 degrees, and there is also a way to use a laundry disinfectant if it is difficult to wash at high temperatures.”
