Amazon subsidiary Zoox launches driverless robotaxi service in Las Vegas, U.S

With no driver’s seat and steering wheel, this vehicle has a unique structure where four passengers sit face to face, and there is no distinction between the front and back, allowing two-way driving.

The robotaxi combines cameras, LiDARs, radars, and long-wavelength infrared sensors to capture everything on the road with a 360-degree field of view. In particular, a total of eight LiDAR sensors are installed at each corner of the vehicle to detect pedestrians or vehicles outside 150 meters. In addition, AI-based path planning technology predicts the behavior of pedestrians or vehicles around them in real time to avoid dangerous situations in advance. The system is designed with all core components dual, so if a problem occurs on one side, it immediately backs up and continues driving.

When you board, you can automatically open and close the vehicle’s sliding doors through a smartphone app. Inside the vehicle, wireless charging pads and touchscreens make it easy to set and change destinations or routes.

Jukes said its robo-taxi is the first company in its history to offer fully autonomous ride-hailing services. It is currently available for free around the Las Vegas Strip and plans to expand its service to San Francisco, Austin, Miami, and more.
