Prince Harry and his wife re-sign with Netflix

Prince Harry and his wife, who became independent from the British royal family, recently renewed their contracts with Netflix. There were speculations that Netflix would not renew the contract due to the continued sluggish box office, but the contract was signed.

According to the Guardian, Harry and his wife signed a contract with Netflix on Wednesday. Although the exact amount of the contract is unknown, it is said that the contract amount is lower than that of the first contract in 2020, which was around 100 million U.S. dollars.

At the time of the first contract, Netflix had the condition that all contents produced by Prince Harry and his wife would be distributed exclusively, but under the contract renewal, Netflix will only have the right to review the contents of Prince Harry and his wife before their competitors. This means that if Netflix believes that the contents planned by Prince Harry and his wife are not commercially viable, it does not have to invest.

“Harry & Meghan,” a six-part documentary produced by Netflix in 2022, was so popular that it recorded 23.4 million views in just four days of its release. The documentary became a hot topic with various episodes, including the racism suffered by Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle. However, the three documentaries that were produced afterwards were not as successful as before. “Paulo,” a documentary produced by Prince Harry and released in December last year, did not have as many as 500,000 views.

“We are proud to expand our partnership with Netflix,” Meghan said in a statement.
