The ‘Grandma Rental’ service is very popular in Japan

It provides various services ranging from practical assistance to emotional support from grandmothers. At the same time, it is expected to ease the burden on the elderly’s living expenses.

According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 12th, Japanese company Client Partners has been operating the “OK Grandma” service since 2011.

It is similar to ‘friend rental’ or ‘acting for a lover’, which were popular earlier in the form of renting an elderly woman between the ages of 60 and 94.

The service fee is 3,000 yen per hour plus 3,000 yen for basic transportation.

You can receive various services such as learning to cook, taking care of children, knitting and sewing education, and conflict counseling for high school students.

According to reports, Client Partners currently has about 100 grandmothers on the job.

The grandmothers responded positively, such as, “I’m discovering another new me with the mind of ‘I can do this’,” and, “It’s always happy and rewarding to be able to help someone while working happily.”

Client Partners said, “The service started just with the idea of providing jobs to the elderly,” adding, “I don’t think an aging society is something to lament about. Rather, we can regard wisdom accumulated through long life as an asset of society.”
