An elderly couple in Malaysia believed in a fake video made of artificial intelligence (AI) and drove for three hours to find a tourist destination that did not actually exist, and was shocked to find out that it was not true.
According to the SCMP on the 10th, the couple drove for three hours from Kuala Lumpur to Perak Province on the 30th of last month. When they arrived at the hotel, they asked where the cable car was, but the staff said, “There is no place like that.”
However, the couple continued to claim that it was true, saying, “I watched a video of the host interviewing tourists in a cable car on TV.”
The video clip that the couple watched showed a female host watching mountains and forests on a cable car called “Kwak Skyride” and interviewing tourists. However, the video was fake by AI. As the controversy grew, the video was deleted.
When the couple found out, the wife got angry, asking why they were cheating on people, and even said she would sue the reporter in the video. The hotel staff explained, “Not all of the people in the video are real.”
Online reactions such as “It’s a pity that I found out that it was fake when I went that far,” and “If you just watch the video, even young people can be deceived, but the elderly are more likely to be deceived.”
As more people are suffering from fake videos made by AI, there are growing calls for regulation.
