The government and the ruling Saenuri Party will hold high-level talks on Wednesday to discuss the extra budget designed to mitigate the effects of the Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreak and the damage from a nationwide drought.
Saenuri floor leader Rep. Won Yoo-chul said the consultation channel would reopen as part of efforts to persuade the opposition to endorse the supplementary budget by next Thursday.
The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn, Saenuri Party chairman Kim Moo-sung, and presidential chief of staff Lee Byung-kee.
The talks follow the first meeting between President Park Geun-hye and the Saenuri leadership on Thursday held after a five month of hiatus due to strained ties. The three-way meeting was also suspended for two months.
Park has pressed the National Assembly to pass an 11.8 trillion won ($10.49 billion) extra budget bill to spur consumption and investment. The supplementary budget is part of a 22 trillion won stimulus package unveiled by the government to help revive the faltering economy.
