Since the launch of the generative artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT, about a third of new employees’ jobs have disappeared, according to an analysis.
The British daily The Times reported on the 30th that the number of “initial” jobs, including college graduates, apprenticeships, and interns, has decreased by 31.9% from November 2022 when ChatGPT was released to May this year.
By sector, the decline in the retail sector reached 78.2%. After that, the logistics, warehouse, and management sectors were in order. The number of entry-level jobs in information technology (IT), accounting, and finance also decreased by more than half.
In May this year, the number of beginner jobs decreased by 4.2% from the same period last year. The total number of jobs increased by 0.5% during the same period and increased for three consecutive months.
As of May, the average number of job seekers per job opening was 2.02, up from 1.98 in April. The average time it takes for a job to be filled increased from 39.6 days to 35.8 days.
The average annual salary for jobs registered for job openings was £42,403, up 9.4% from May last year.

This is because AI is the main cause of the reduction of beginner jobs in a situation where economic conditions have become difficult overall.
Some analysts say that the reason why employers cannot hire people due to the increased burden of national insurance premiums and new employment bills continues to increase.
In fact, the number of companies that publicly announced their plans to reduce manpower by using AI is on the rise.
BT, a telecommunications company, said it plans to replace 10,000 jobs by 2030 with AI, including call processing and network diagnosis.
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, a startup that developed the chatbot “Claude,” also predicted that AI could eliminate half of all new office jobs over the next five years, raising the unemployment rate to 10-20%.
