Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, announced on the 24th local time that it will expand its “Same-Day Delivery” and “Same-Day Delivery” services to more than 4,000 small and medium-sized cities and rural areas across the United States.
To that end, Amazon explained that it plans to invest more than $4 billion by 2026.
As a result, Amazon’s fast prime delivery service will be available to millions of customers living in small and medium-sized cities and rural areas, including Asbury, Iowa, Fort Seneca, Ohio, and Lewis, Delaware.
“This expansion goes beyond just speeding up delivery and aims to transform the daily lives of rural customers who live far from brick-and-mortar stores, have fewer product and brand options, and have limited delivery options when shopping online,” Amazon said.
Amazon has made fast delivery a key factor to stay ahead of competition with offline distribution powerhouses such as Walmart and others.
This year, the number of same-day or next-day deliveries in the U.S. has increased by more than 30% compared to last year. Last year, Amazon delivered more than 9 billion items through its fast delivery service.
Amazon’s expansion of delivery services comes ahead of a big discount event.
