A famous Mexican singer fails to perform in Texas due to sudden cancellation of his U.S. visa

A famous Mexican singer who is popular in the south of the United States, Mexico, and South America has canceled his Texas performance due to the sudden cancellation of his U.S. visa.

Julion Álvarez and the Sunorteño band canceled a 50,000-seat Texas concert on the 24th and said they were in the process of refunding seat reservations.

Alvarez was scheduled to hold a concert at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington on the day. Tickets for the concert are said to be sold out.

Alvarez’s agency confirmed that it was rescheduling the performance and refunding tickets, saying, “The unexpected situation prevented singers and bands from being on stage,” according to the Mexican daily Eluniversal.

“I was notified that the work visa I received for the concert was canceled,” Alvarez said in a separate video posted to Instagram. “I don’t know why, and I think it’s out of my hands.”

Without a detailed comment, the US authorities said they would not comment on individual visa-related cases, CNN reported.

Alvarez was sanctioned in 2017 along with 21 people, including Mexican soccer star Rafael Marquez, over allegations that he was involved in a drug trafficking group during the first Trump administration.

However, he explained, “I contacted him regarding the purchase of real estate, but I did not know whether he was a (narcotics trafficker),” and was removed from the sanctions list in 2022 because his vocation was recognized.

Recently, the Donald Trump administration canceled the visa of another famous Mexican band that showed the head of a drug cartel on screen during a performance in Jalisco, Mexico.

Earlier this month, the U.S. visa for Mexico’s Baja California governor and his wife was canceled, causing a backlash.
