200,000 Danish “California Lions” petition to Trump Greenland’s eye

In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempt to take over Greenland, an online petition campaign called “buy California” is taking place in Denmark, which has Greenland as its self-governing territory.

More than 200,000 people have already joined the petition, which ridicules and satirizes President Trump’s territorial ambitions.

According to the Guardian, a satirical petition to raise $1 trillion to acquire California, the most populous state in the United States and a key driver of the U.S. economy, is popular in Denmark on the 11th (local time).

An online petitioner wrote, “Have you ever looked at the map and thought, ‘What do we need in Denmark? More sunlight, palm trees, roller skating’? Well, we have a chance of a lifetime to make that dream a reality,” suggesting, “Let’s buy California from Donald Trump!”

“We will bring ‘Hygge’ (the Danish word for comfort) to Hollywood, bike lanes in Beverly Hills, and organic Smørebröd (the Danish sandwich with butter and fish on toast) to every corner of the street. The rule of law, universal healthcare, and fact-based politics can be applied,” the petition says.

“Trump is not a big fan of California, to be honest. He called California the ‘most broken state in the federation’ and has been at odds with California leaders for years. We are confident that he will be willing to pay for it at the right price,” he added.

At the top of the petition site, the slogan “Make California Great Again,” a parody of President Trump’s presidential slogan “MAGA (Make ø Great Again),” was put on the slogan “Make California Great Again.”

Furthermore, the U.S. government plans to change Disneyland to Hans Christian Andersen Land after a world-renowned Danish children’s storyteller, and Mickey Mouse could wear a Viking helmet. The petition, which aims to attract 500,000 signatures, attracted more than 200,000 people.

President Trump insisted on buying Greenland in 2019, during his first term in office, and as soon as he won re-election, he is eyeing again, saying, “For national security and freedom around the world, the United States absolutely needs Greenland’s ownership and control.”

Greenland, the world’s largest island located in the Arctic Ocean, is rich in natural resources such as oil, gas, and rare earths, and is expected to become an important Arctic route if glaciers melt due to climate warming.

Denmark and Greenland are struggling to stop President Trump’s greed.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declared last month that “Greenland is not for sale” and stressed that “in the eyes of the Danish government, Greenland is the land of Greenlanders.”

Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede also said, “We are Greenlanders. We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danes. Greenland’s future will be determined by Greenland.”

However, the Guardian pointed out that the U.S. efforts to target Greenland seem to be getting serious.

Representative Bertie Carter of Georgia, a ruling Republican, recently introduced a bill to allow President Trump to take over Greenland and change the name of Greenland to Red, White, and Blueland.
