Apple will be able to repair iPhone 15 with used parts instead of new ones, reducing repair costs

Apple changed its policy to allow iPhone repair with used parts starting this fall, reducing iPhone repair costs. Apple said it will improve the existing repair process to enable iPhone repair using used parts. The parts that can be repaired with used parts are the display, battery, camera, and biometric sensor of the upcoming iPhone. Used parts will be fixed starting with the iPhone 15, which was released last year.

Until now, Apple has allowed iPhone users to repair their devices only with new genuine parts after “part pairing.” Pairing refers to the process of verifying that a repair part is genuine and collecting information about parts.

After the pairing process, Apple asked Apple to use a new part that matches the device’s serial number, and let them know that if they use used or similar parts, they cannot identify newly installed parts. Some functions were not functional at all even after parts were replaced. Apple has claimed that it is critical to protect and secure personal information.

However, Apple eliminated this notification of used parts, allowing repairs to new and used parts. In addition, users will not have to provide serial numbers of devices when ordering parts at repair shops.

Repair costs are expected to be reduced as used parts allow iPhone to be repaired. “There has been another step forward in Apple’s commitment to improving access to safe and affordable repairs,” Apple stressed.

To that end, Apple explained that it has provided genuine Apple parts and training to more than 10,000 independent repair companies over the past five years, and that starting in 2022, self-repair will be possible in 33 countries and regions around the world.

People will no longer realize that Apple is difficult to repair if it is said that it can be repaired with used parts rather than new products when the device breaks down. Apple will also be available to more people because it costs less to repair.
