An exhibition that unravels Dongdaemun’s place and historical value through media art will be held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The exhibition will be available from February 01 to June 30 at “Media Art Gallery,” a permanent media art exhibition hall for DDP, and “Media Wall,” a transparent OLED. This exhibition is part of the next-generation media artist development project of “Seoul Light DDP,” and it tells the story of Dongdaemun from the perspective of next-generation media artists, ranging from Hanyang City Wall to Training Picture Book, Dongdaemun Stadium, Pungmul Market, and DDP. The “Media Art Gallery” will showcase two media art works that enhance immersion by utilizing projection mapping and sound, a technology that coats images with projectors on the surface of three-dimensional objects. The first work, “Graphic Procedure (Writer Shim Kyu-ha)” is a work that visually expresses the cycle of placeability using molding elements.The letters, colors, and shapes created based on Hanyang City Wall and DDP continue to appear in a variable form accompanied by rules and irregularities. The second work, “From One Point to Light (Artist Kim Jae)” is a work that conveys the message that the past, present, and future have a continuous and infinite relationship. The artist expressed the flow and continuity of time by starting with a dot, changing into a topography, and then disappearing. ○ Three works will be introduced in the ‘Transparent OLED Media Wall’ where eight large panels are connected as one. The work “Traveler (Writer Super Normal)” features an astronaut traveling in time from the past to the present of Hanyangdoseong and Dongdaemun in media art. The Journey of Light (writer Ham Ji-won) reproduces the damaged things in the past, such as Hanyangdoseong and Pungmul Market, as pieces of light gather and scatter. The last work, “The Stratum of Time (Artist Studio)” is a work that turns into a 3D animation map containing the accumulation of time as the flat map representing the old Dongdaemun terrain is dismantled.
