British Cultural Center in Korea X BFI Flare X Seoul International Pride Film Festival 2022

The 2022 Seoul International Pride Film Festival (hereinafter referred to as the Pride Film Festival), the British Cultural Center in Korea, and the British BFI Flair, which will be held on November 3, will showcase short stories of British queer films.

The Pride Film Festival, the British Council in Korea, and the British Film Institute Flare jointly ran the “British Focus” program in 2017 to mark the 2017-18 Korean-English mutual exchange year and the 50th anniversary of the abolition of the British Homosexual Discrimination Act. At this time, a total of 15 works were presented, including representative British queer films such as “Olando” (director Sally Potter), “Edward II” (director Derek Germán), “My Beautiful Laundry” (director Steven Friars), “Love Journey” (director John Schlesinger), and “The Devil of Love” (director John Maverry).

He also formed a consensus with Brian Robinson, who has been the chief programmer of the London LGBT Film Festival hosted by BFI Flair since 2000, promising continued cooperation and partnership in the future. In succession to this intention, the three organizations established an official partnership with the British Council program under the common goal of breaking social prejudice and changing perceptions of LGBTQs as part of their policy of equal opportunity and diversity inclusion.

This year’s British Queer Film Short Line Program will select and present the screening works of the world’s first online LGBTIQ+ film festival, the BFI Flare London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival, to Korean audiences. The works will be shown in two parts: “Five Films For Freedom” and “More Films For Freedom.” You can see high-quality short stories such as various genres of movies, documentaries, and animations that contain stories of LGBTQ people from different cultures.

A total of five works will be screened at Five Films For Freedom, including For Love, Sunday, Birthday Main, Exorcism, and All Senses in My Stomach, while more Films For Freedom will be able to see six works: Army, Prayer for the Holy, Baba, As My Body Says, and Gail, Noware.

The Seoul International Pride Film Festival, which showcases only the strongest weapon, power, and the best LGBT movies that break the limited framework of summit, will be held in Megabox Seongsu from November 3 to November 9, 2022.
